The presenter will draw from the new edition of the award-winning book Letters to the Next President and the upcoming ASCD book Leadership for Powerful and Purposeful Schools. The core ideas are that student achievement is related to student engagement and one gap cannot be closed without closing the other. Case studies will be used to demonstrate changes needed in leadership and school improvement; decision making; authority; and school, community, and classroom practices.
