In elementary schools, particularly, doing what works and transforming what doesn't often involves schoolwide attention to literacy. This session will help principals and other school leaders understand literacy instruction in terms of the nuts and bolts of instruction, building a school culture of literacy, working with struggling readers, and helping all teachers enhance their practice. Through simulations, discussion, handouts, and role play, participants will understand how effective leadership can enhance classroom literacy practices.
