The traditional method of launching a teacher's career depends on the myth that beginning teachers are prepared to teach unassisted in the classroom. This trial-by-fire method is particularly costly for urban schools and communities. This session's interactive discussion will focus on one urban school-university partnership that addresses the needs of novice teachers and their mentors. The effect of the program on novice and veteran teachers and university faculty will be discussed.
