Many school districts find themselves trapped in divisive confrontations between teacher unions and administration that often peak during labor negotiations. This session will address these relationships, individual and institutional, and present a model of collaboration and cooperation that can result in more successful school decision-making and labor negotiations. An experienced union president and chief negotiator will demonstrate this model in which teachers and administrators learn to view each other as partners in the effort to improve student learning and elevate the profession. Participants will leave with practical negotiating and decision-making strategies.
